MTG Ante-Commander League
November 26, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$8
Commander is hands down one of the most popular formats in the store. Every Wednesday, tons of players pour into the store to meet up with friends, jam some card, and flex their magic prowess *pause for laughter at the excellent pun* Sometimes though, players want a spicier Commander experience. Introducing CGC’s Ante-Commander League!
Every Saturday, players will meet up and play commander just like Wednesdays but you’ll have the ability to wager special poker chips to make the games a little more interesting.
$8 gets players two chips and each chip is worth either a regular priced draft booster pack or $3 in store credit. When chips are anted, the winner of the pod collects the pool. There is no limit to how many chips someone can win; saving up for an entire box or for rare cards is completely fine.
FAQs:
Q: $8 for two chips? Couldn’t I just immediately turn them in to save money on 2 packs?
A: Absolutely! At the end of the day, you’re still spending money to support the store and not everyone is confident enough to want to wager on their deck. We hope that the spirit of the event will encourage players to improve and grow.

Q: I thought CGC has always discouraged cEDH?
A: We never discourage competitive play. We always want to remind players to be mindful of the others around them in a casual setting. Driving a Ferrari in a go-cart race isn’t fun for either group; the same is true for casual commander. When packs are on the line, running your strongest deck only makes sense. Combo off, blow up lands, and make your opponents rue the day they sat across from your Rograkh/Ravos deck.

Q: I don’t want to lose my cards?!
A: We don’t blame you. We don’t want you to lose your cards either. Players can only ante the chips they’ve bought or earned. we are simply stealing the name to make things interesting and convey what sort of event this is.

Q: 36 chips for a booster box?
A: Yup! Horde away your chips and roll around in them like Scrooge McDuck!

Q: I already lost my chips can I buy in again?
A: Sure! Players may buy up to 4 Chips a week. Only want 1 chip? It’s $5.

Q: Store Credit?
A: why not? They’re your winnings and not everyone is into booster packs. Turn your chips in whenever you want and we can apply it to that transaction or to your account to be used on a later date. Each chip is worth $3 in Store Credit. The only rule is store credit cannot be used to buy into the event.

Q: Why are you calling it a league?
A: Honestly? It sounds neat. Our hope is this event becomes a permanent fixture at the store but no one knows what the future holds. Maybe we will do theme nights or do seasons with different colored chips? The possibilities are endless and we cannot wait to see how this event evolves with time.
