We here at Central Gaming Corps have always been big fans of Marvel. A lot of us have been watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters for over a decade. That’s why we made the decision, with the help of a few local players, to stock up on this exciting take on the wargaming genre by Atomic Mass Games.
What is Marvel Crisis Protocol?
Marvel Crisis Protocol is a tabletop miniatures game that takes place in the Marvel universe! Players can purchase their favorite characters from Marvel Comics and pit them against one another. Have you ever wanted to know what would happen in a fight between Doctor Strange and Juggernaut? What about Spider-Man and Gambit? Now you can tell that story with a friend!
Similar to Warhammer, you will get an unpainted miniature, giving you the free rein to paint them any color of your choice! This might dissuade some players from buying into the game, but Warhammer veterans will feel right at home painting their new models to perfection.
How Many Characters are there?
At the time of writing this post, there are over 90 character models for the game, including fan favorites, like Spider-Man and Black Panther, and even some more underground characters, like Kingpin and MODOK. They are always working on releasing new characters to bolster the lineup. Coming soon are models for Blade, Moon Knight, and Dormammu.
Personally, I think that I am most excited about running a team with Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight. But don’t stop there! You can play with Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Play with Ultron. Play with with Venom and Doc Oc!
What Sets it Apart?
At Central Gaming Corps, we had a few players that turned us onto Marvel Crisis Protocol. I was working one night while they were playing and I heard the sentence, “I’m going to throw the dumpster at Black Widow.” I was sold right away, and I think you should be too.
If you have a hard time with some of the bigger war games, this is a good place to start playing the genre. This game is easier to pick up and play than even X-Wing or World of Tanks. If you’re looking for a fun time with some of your favorite comic book characters, then Marvel Crisis Protocol could be the game you’ve been looking for!
